Who We Are
"The Ethical Society's mission is to give birth to personalities who have attained for themselves an abiding ethical faith and are aflame with it." – Dr. Felix Adler
The Washington Ethical Society is a humanistic religious community, without formal creed or dogma, united in the belief that the greatest moral and spiritual values are to be found through raising the quality of human relationships.
We are a vibrant community of 400 people going through life together and working to improve the world—while celebrating life passages and seasonal holidays with humanistic ceremonies. We are dedicated to bringing out the best in the human spirit, appreciating the unique capacities within each person, celebrating what we value, supporting each other through the stages of life, raising the quality of relationships in our families, friendships, workplaces, and communities, and doing our part to create a more just and loving world for all. We seek members who want to work toward these ends, while remaining free from any formal creed.
WES is a diverse community with a wide variety of programs for families, singles, couples, and seniors. We publish a monthly newsletter with details on our upcoming events.
